Tormenting climbs, treacherous descents, and tantalizing flats will be part of the varied terrain featured in the 100 mile bike route for the 6th annual BLOOD,SWEAT & GEARS-GOD'S COUNTRY CENTURY CHALLENGE. The demanding route , which showcases the mountain communities of Watauga County, North Carolina, will require over 9,000 ft of total climbing. Highlights of the route will include a 20+ mile section of the BLUE RIDGE PARKWAY, a three mile flat along the South Fork of the New River, and a strenuous climb over the 4,500 foot Snake Mountain. The ride has 6 aide stations with food, water & poweraide. A 58 mile segment will also be offered for those riders who prefer the sanity of a challenging, but shorter route. THE RIDE IS LIMITED TO THE 1ST 750 REGISTRANTS!!!!

Packet Pickup- Friday, June 25 at the County Library (140 Queens St.) Boone, NC from 3:00 pm -8:00 pm. Saturday at Valle Crucis Elementary School in Valle Crucis, NC) from 6:00 am - 7:00 am.
Proceeds benefit the Jeremy Dale Fisher Fund (provides assistance to local families that are displaced by fire, flood or similare disasters) and the Watauga County Chapter of the American Red Cross.

The BSG is and English century - 100 mile loop ride starting and ending at the Valle Crucis Elementary School, approximately 5 miles south of Boone, North Carolina. The route roughly circles Boone through the outskirts of Watauga County, the heart of North Carolina's High Country. The terrain is constantly changing with hills of all lengths and curves too numerous to count. Cumulative elevation change is approximately 9000 feet with the climb up to the gap at Snake Mountain, milepoint 63, reaching an 18-20% grade near the top. At 2:30 PM all remaining riders reaching Cove Creek at milepoint 82, will be directed to the finish at Valle Crucis, resulting in a total distance ride of 87 miles. |

The approx 50 mile ride starts & finishes at Valle Crucis Elementary School. The Course follows a mostly separate route and is fully supported with 2 aide stations. The uphills are not too bad, and there are 2 really great downhills. All riders will be computer timed. |
