Both the Marathon and Half Marathon are point to point courses. In addition to being compared to Big Sur beauty-wise, RW has tagged us "The Best Kept Secret in Marathoning" and RT says we are the "perfect marathon course. Come see for yourself. Half marathon is very fast... mostly downhill. Finish line in '05... Main Street, in Historic Deadwood. Party in the street... "live" music, food and local characters. We're shootin' for 2,500... help us make it happen.

COURSE: Point to point course, beginning in the tiny hamlet of Rochford; at mile 1, you hit the Mickelson Trail; 23 miles of the best of God's handiwork; a short tour of Historic Deadwood; finishing on Main Street. The trail is a 10 foot wide, well-groomed, scenic pathway through the beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota. There is a gradual increase in elevation, (a continual 3% grade) in the first 12 miles of the course, and a nice gentle downhill run for the next 11 miles, with a more serious drop in elevation from 18.3 to about 19. The last 3 miles into Deadwood, and on to the finish line are mostly flat. Elevation at start: 5200'. Elevation at highest point: 6200' feet. Elevation at finish: 4200'
There WILL be transportation provided from Deadwood to the Starting Line.
AWARDS: Overall Male & Female. Overall Master (40) Male & Female Over All Super Master (60) Male & Female Age Group Winners, 3 Deep, 5 year brackets. |

The race will start at the 13.1 mile mark of the full marathon and have the same finish line as the marathon.
COURSE: The half marathon is a fast course... elevation at the start is 6000 ft. down to 4400 ft. in Deadwood at the finish line. A gain of 100 ft. btwn mile 5 and 6, and all the rest is either downhill, or flat. And don't forget the beauty of the Black Hills will be surrounding you all the way. |
